Ms. Wilkins’ Summer Message for Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students of M.S. 53,

I hope you and your family are having an enjoyable summer recess despite what is happening around the city and the world! MS53 – Brian Piccolo is committed to the social, emotional, and academic development of the whole child. Success is inevitable with the cooperation, dedication and support of our parents and the community. We are looking forward to a wonderful 2021-2022 school year! As of right now, in accordance with DOE guidelines, schools will resume 100% in person learning in September. This means we will be able to meet and greet all of your beautiful faces in person. Please note the following information that will help make the transition easier.

The 2021-2022 school year begins on Monday, September 13, 2021.

Here at M.S. 53, our first priorities are safety and academics. We will be following CDC guidelines on social distancing and mask wearing, as well as temperature checks and health screenings for staff and students. More information will follow as we receive updates and guidance from the DOE.

We will be hosting welcoming events for families on Thursday, September 2, 2021 as follows:
Grades 6 & 7: Open House 10:00 – 11:00 AM
Grade 8: Building Reacquaintance Event 1:00 – 2:00 PM

Google Classroom: All students have a ms53.org google username and password.


Grade 6 students, please log in and press ACCEPT for the “Incoming 6th Grade 2021-22” classroom. This is where we will post any updates throughout the summer.

Grade 7 & 8 students will continue to utilize their accounts.

Summer Assignments: Students were assigned summer assignments in ELA and Math. Please visit https://sites.google.com/MS53.org/summerpackets to access. Assignments are due on 9/13.


Technology: MS53 will continue to utilize technology for learning. More information is forthcoming.
Classes: All students have been placed into official classes. Your child’s class is printed on the mailing label on the front of this envelope. Full class schedules will be available in September.

Daily Schedule: School is from 8:20AM – 2:40PM. Students may arrive as early as 7:45AM for breakfast.
Supplies: M.S. 53 has been able to provide the majority of supplies for your child. Please make sure your child has at all times a pack of No.2 pencils, a pack of blue or black pens, a pencil case, 8 folders, and a bookbag.

Uniforms: We are a 100% uniform school. Our full uniform policy is outlined in a student handbook that your child will receive in September. The MS53 uniform consists of grade-specific colored polo shirts and full-length khaki-colored pants. Uniform tops and M.S. 53 sweatpants are available for purchase at our school.

Grade 6 – Orange polo shirt
Grade 7 – Navy Blue polo shirt
Grade 8 – White polo shirt


Cell Phones: MS 53 has approved a no cell phone policy. These items are to be left at home or stored in an individual YONDR pouch that will be locked and your child can carry them throughout the day. MS 53 is not responsible for their loss or theft. Students who do not adhere to the cell phone policy may have their phones confiscated and returned only to parents.
